FK Architecture Honored with Multiple Awards at This Year's Canstruction Orlando!

Soaring to the Moon & Beyond With 1,326 Cans at This Year’s Canstruction Orlando!

We've always felt that creativity and community go hand in hand. This year, our team prepped for Canstruction Orlando's Hungry to Learn Competition and joined other community leaders to raise money for the local foodbanks. We had fun along the way, gave back to the community, and even walked away with some awards. FK was awarded the To Infinity and Beyond and the Most Adventurous awards. Additionally, we were recognized for Best Use of Signage and Most Spirited.

Canstruction Orlando teamed with the Orlando Science Center and the Second Harvest Food Bank to establish the theme, Hungry to Learn. The theme celebrates teachers throughout the country for their dedication and hard work in educating and guiding children to become productive adults and better human beings.

Inspired by NASA's plans to use the Artemis program to explore our solar system, our team drew inspiration from the meaning behind the program's name and goals.

We named our sculpture "From Earth to the Moon & Beyond" in a tribute to the signs we used to see in U.S. schools, like "Reach for the Stars" and "Soar to New Heights."

We wanted to present the Artemis as coming out of a book, so we used Publix beans, vegetables, and bumble bee tuna cans for the book's white pages; StarKist tuna cans formed the book cover.

"The Artemis program inspires memories of childhood that we all share. As kids, we loved learning about space and the planets," said Amanda Valezquez, FK's Team Captain. "For adults, this program represents the next wave of space exploration. It opens our imagination to the impossible and inspires new generations."

The judges were drawn to FK's unique and detailed design efforts and commented, "I love the fact they portrayed the launch of the Artemis 1 rocket. Most impressive was how they layered metallic cans at the rocket's base to give the impression of a flowing cloud of exhaust." In addition, the judges commented on the overall impact the design has in relation to the theme of the Competition,

"Poverty and World Hunger are such a grand problem to tackle, and I can't think of another symbol of progress and fortune that best represents that fight than the Artemis rocket."

Congratulations to all who participated in this year's Canstruction Orlando event and helped make a difference in our community!
